The Pennsylvania Educators’ Clearinghouse (www.PA-Educator.net) is an Internet database
that enables teachers, schools, intermediate units (IUs), and college/university
career services officers to find each other and share information.
PA-Educator.net is designed to improve the application process for professional
school employees interested in working in Pennsylvania and assist them in their
job search. The state has been divided into ten geographic regions, enabling applicants
to search and apply for jobs that are open in different Pennsylvania regions.
Since PA-Educator.net became operational in April 1999, it has evolved to include
more than 200 schools and IUs in Pennsylvania with
88098
applicants in the database. School districts are assessed an annual user fee that
is based upon the weighted average daily membership and state aid ratio.
How does it work? Applicants create one online application that is then made available
to participating schools and IUs. School administrators enter applicant search criteria
and query the database to find qualified matches. Applicant search criteria may
include any or all of the following: certification, undergraduate QPA, years of
teaching experience, desired county/counties of employment, highest degree obtained,
and applicants with complete records.
Major benefits of PA-Educator.net include:
- Applicants complete the Pennsylvania Standard Teaching Application online. It is
then available to all participating schools and IUs.
- Applicants benefit through the partnerships between the clearinghouse and their
colleges and universities.
- Schools and IUs set criteria and select a more manageable number of candidates to
interview.
- Schools and IUs should enjoy significant savings in time and money associated with
applicant record keeping, recruiting, and screening.
- Schools and IUs can post and update their job postings and evaluate applications.
- Schools and IUs significantly increase their opportunities to hire the best candidates.
- The same applicant pool is available to all schools and IUs regardless of size or
wealth.
- Users benefit from the ease and convenience of Internet linking to obtain comprehensive
information about individual schools and IUs that are participating in the program.
- Students benefit by having the best new teachers.
Through the web site, users gain access to the latest job postings. Information
is also available regarding Pennsylvania teacher certification testing requirements,
credential information, and links to other educational web sites. The site also
allows schools and IUs to search for substitute teachers based upon the appropriate
responses to the standard application’s substitute teaching questions.
Over the next few years, teachers will be retiring in record numbers. PA-Educator.net’s
ultimate goal is to build a large and diversified pool of candidates that will enable
schools and IUs throughout Pennsylvania to search for and screen online applications
and find qualified candidates to interview in order to fill such job vacancies.
